The Comprehensive CJKI Vietnamese-Japanese Dictionary is a mobile dictionary app available on iOS that covers general vocabulary, technical terms, and proper nouns. It is optimized for the convenience of mobile users, serving as a greatly expanded version of the CJKI Vietnamese-Japanese Dictionary, first released over 10 years ago. It contains enough Japanese equivalents and other information to give the user an in-depth understanding of Vietnamese words and phrases while not cluttering up the screen. 

Both versions of the dictionary cater to the needs of learners by providing Vietnamese example sentences, as well as synonyms and antonyms when appropriate. As is well known, a very large portion of the Vietnamese vocabulary consists of Sino-Vietnamese words and compounds, such as thế giới (世界). To facilitate more efficient learning of such words, these dictionaries provide the Chinese character equivalents of these words, though the Chinese-based writing system in Vietnamese was abolished in the early 20th century. 

The Comprehensive CJKI Vietnamese-Japanese Dictionary is truly comprehensive: it contains over 160,000 entries—more than five times the number in the original dictionary—so this dictionary is ideally suited for advanced learners or those who use Vietnamese for work or business, such as translators. In addition, the entry structure was reexamined and subdivided in order to better help convey the meanings of each word. Lastly, much effort has gone into incorporating as many technical terms as possible, making this ideal for translators. These technical terms cover over 30 distinct domains, including medicine, finance, engineering, sports, and many more.
